About Recycle Champions
Recycle Champions is a new, free program run by the Knox County Solid Waste Department and supported by the City of Knoxville Office of Solid Waste that promotes recycling and thoughtful waste management practices among businesses throughout the Knox Area.
Recycle Champions’ businesses have made real, independently verified commitments to recycle and reduce their waste. In order to enroll, the “Recycle Champion Agreement Form”, which outlines mandatory and discretionary requirements for membership, must be completed. Based on the number of discretionary requirements that an individual business completes, the business will be certified as a Recycle Champion Platinum (1st highest), Gold (2nd highest), or Silver (3rd highest) Participant. Knox County Solid Waste or affiliated organizations audit businesses’ waste streams to recommend best practices and ensure compliance with program requirements. Each business must provide yearly documentation of recycling efforts and post their certification in a highly visible location of the store.
This free program offers waste consultations and marketing for businesses that have shown or would like to show a commitment to recycling and waste reduction. In addition to the ecological benefits of reducing waste and recycling, businesses may realize cost savings by reducing the number of trash collections required, and appeal to a customer base that is committed to environmental sustainability.
